Each domain name is required to have an alphanumeric (letters and numbers) password type code that cannot exceed 16 characters and functions as an authentication code, especially for domain name transfers under the EPP protocol. This password type code is termed an Auth Info Code or AUTH CODE. Most modern gTLD and ccTLD Registries use EPP, and the Auth Code allows quick and seemless authorized transfers of domain names between Registrars within a given Registry. The Auth Info Code is also used to authenticate each contact and is required. |
