A deleted domain name is not automatically removed from the Registry immediately upon deletion. Instead, the Registry allows a 5 days Grace Period to allow the existing Registrant an opportunity to regain the domain name before making it publicly available for registration by anyone. This is known as the Deletion Grace Period, during which time a domain name will have the "PENDING DELETE" status.
